How many qualified leads should a BDR realistically be generating per month for a company doing $5M-$15M in revenue?

The short answer

A ramped BDR at a $5M-$15M B2B company should produce 10-20 truly qualified opportunities a month, not raw leads. The range depends on deal size and cycle length: shorter-cycle, lower-ACV offers sit near 20, complex six-figure sales sit closer to 10. Anyone promising 40+ is counting form fills, not qualified pipeline.

Define "qualified" before you set the number

Most of the confusion around BDR output comes from mixing up three different things: a lead (someone who matched a filter), a qualified lead (someone who fits the ICP and showed real intent), and a sales-qualified opportunity (someone who agreed to a next step with budget, authority, or at least a genuine problem on the table). A BDR can generate 200 leads a month and zero qualified opportunities. The number that matters to a $5M-$15M company is the third one — opportunities an AE will actually work — and that number is much smaller than founders expect when they first hire a BDR.

The realistic range

For companies in this revenue band, the honest range is 10-20 qualified opportunities per BDR per month, once ramped. Where you land in that range depends almost entirely on deal complexity and average contract value, not on effort.

Deal profileTypical ACVRealistic qualified opps/month
Transactional, single buyerUnder $10k18-25
Mid-complexity, 1-2 stakeholders$10k-$50k12-18
Complex, multi-stakeholder, custom scope$50k+8-14

A $5M-$15M company selling a $75,000 integration project should not expect the same volume as one selling a $5,000 subscription, even with identical BDR headcount and identical effort. The Bridge Group's long-running research on SDR metrics backs this up: outbound productivity tracks tightly with average deal size and sales cycle length, and benchmarks that ignore those variables are close to meaningless.

Why this size of company sees lower numbers than the SaaS playbooks suggest

Most published BDR benchmarks come from venture-backed SaaS companies with large total addressable markets, dedicated marketing engines feeding warm leads, and ACVs in a tight band. A founder-led company doing $5M-$15M usually has none of that. The total addressable market is smaller, the ICP is narrower because the founder is the only one who can close certain deal types, and there's rarely a marketing team supplying inbound to supplement outbound. That means a BDR here is doing cold, unassisted prospecting against a thinner list — and the qualified-opp number should be judged against that reality, not against a 500-person SaaS company's funnel.

It also means list quality matters more than call volume at this size. A BDR making 80 dials a day against a badly defined ICP will produce worse numbers than one making 40 dials a day against a tightly scoped list of companies that actually match the product. Founders who feel their BDR is "underperforming" often haven't checked whether the target list was ever qualified in the first place.

What actually moves the number

Three things change the realistic range more than hiring a second BDR does. First, list quality — a verified, ICP-matched list produces roughly double the qualified rate of a scraped or purchased list, because reps aren't burning calls on bad-fit prospects. Second, messaging specificity — generic "do you have 15 minutes" outreach converts at a fraction of outreach that names a known problem the prospect's segment actually has. Third, follow-up discipline — most qualified opportunities come from the 5th through 12th touch, not the first three, and a BDR without a structured cadence tool will quietly let most of that follow-up lapse.

None of these are about working harder. They're about whether the BDR is pointed at the right accounts with the right message and a system that doesn't let leads fall through.

Where SalesARC fits

If the bottleneck is list quality and manual research eating the BDR's day, ArcClaw™ Prospecting Agents build and score the ICP-matched list automatically, which is often the single biggest lever on the qualified-opp number described above. If the BDR already has a good list but opportunities are stalling for lack of a repeatable cadence, SalesARC Prospect handles the sequencing and follow-up that most BDRs let slip after the third touch. Neither fixes a fundamentally wrong ICP — that has to be defined correctly first. See SalesARC Prospect.
